The Bible Story

Abraham and Isaac on Mount Moriah

Genesis 22:1–19 tells how God tested Abraham by commanding him to take Isaac to Moriah and offer him on a mountain God would show him. Abraham traveled with Isaac and two servants, carrying the needed supplies. At the mountain, Abraham built an altar, arranged the wood, bound Isaac, and reached out his hand. The angel of the LORD called from heaven and told Abraham not to harm the boy. Abraham then saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. He took the ram and offered it instead of his son. Abraham named the place, “The LORD will provide.” The angel later conveyed the LORD’s promise concerning Abraham’s offspring, their victory over enemies, and blessing to all nations through Abraham’s offspring. Abraham and Isaac returned with the servants to Beersheba.
