The Bible Story

Abraham and Isaac on Mount Moriah

Genesis 22:9-10 describes Abraham reaching the place God had shown him. He built an altar, arranged the wood, bound Isaac, placed him on the altar over the wood, and reached out his hand to take the knife. This passage is part of a test of Abraham. It does not describe Isaac’s age, resistance, injury, or spoken response. The account continues with the angel of the LORD stopping Abraham and telling him not to harm the boy. A ram is provided instead. For this scene, keep the focus on the altar, wood, Abraham’s preparation, and Isaac shown unharmed. Avoid suggesting that Isaac is injured or that the scene shows the completed offering.
