The Bible Story

Moses and the Burning Bush

In Exodus 3:16–22, God tells Moses to gather Israel’s elders and explain that the LORD has seen what has been done to the Israelites in Egypt. God promises to bring his people to a good land, described as flowing with milk and honey. The elders will listen to Moses. Moses and the elders are then to go to Egypt’s king and ask permission for the Israelites to worship the LORD in the wilderness. God warns that the king will not let them go unless compelled by a mighty hand. God also says that he will act against Egypt with wonders and that the Israelites will leave with favor and possessions from the Egyptians. These instructions describe what is to happen; they do not show the request, rescue, or wonders as already completed.
