The Bible moment
In Exodus 3:11–12, Moses asks who he is to go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt. God answers with a promise: “I will be with you.” God also gives Moses a sign: after the Israelites are brought out, they will worship God at Horeb, the mountain where Moses is standing. This worship is promised for the future, not shown as already completed. The surrounding passage describes Moses meeting God at the burning bush. The bush burns without being consumed, God calls Moses, and Moses responds with reverence. God has seen Israel’s suffering in Egypt and sends Moses to lead them out. Moses has questions and fears, but God does not tell him that he must succeed by his own strength. Instead, God promises his presence and later provides further help, including Aaron. The passage also reveals God’s name as “I AM WHO I AM” and “the LORD.”

Use this page
Use this page with Exodus 3:1–4:17 to discuss calling, obedience, holy presence, and courage. Emphasize that Moses’ worship at Horeb was promised for the future. Invite children to notice that God answered Moses’ fear with presence and help, not with a claim that the task would be easy.
