The Bible Story

Elijah Is Fed by Ravens

In 1 Kings 17:2-4, the LORD tells Elijah to go east and hide beside the Brook Cherith. Elijah is told that he may drink from the brook, and that the LORD has commanded ravens to feed him there. Elijah follows the LORD’s direction and goes to the brook. The drought announced earlier means there is no rain, but this beat focuses on the LORD’s care for Elijah at Cherith. The passage does not explain how Elijah traveled, where he slept, or where the ravens got the food. Later, 1 Kings 17:5-6 says that Elijah stays by the brook, drinks its water, and receives bread and meat from ravens in the morning and evening.
