The Bible Story

Elijah Is Fed by Ravens

In 1 Kings 17:1–16, Elijah announces that there will be no dew or rain for the coming years except by his word, according to the LORD’s word. Then the LORD tells Elijah to go east and hide beside the Brook Cherith. Elijah obeys and drinks from the brook. The LORD commands ravens to feed him there. Ravens bring Elijah bread and meat in the morning and evening, and he drinks from the brook. After some time, the brook becomes dry because there has been no rain. The LORD then sends Elijah to Zarephath, where a widow is commanded to provide for him. This passage shows the LORD directing Elijah and providing for him in an unexpected way.
