Joshua 6:1-27

The Big Idea

Following the LORD’s instructions mattered, even when the people had to wait and march quietly. The trumpet blast and shout marked the moment the wall fell.

The Bible Story

The Walls of Jericho Fall

Joshua 6:1–27 describes how the LORD instructed Joshua to lead Israel around the closed city of Jericho. For six days, they marched around it once each day. On the seventh day, they marched seven times. At the seventh circuit, the priests sounded the trumpets, Joshua told the people to shout, and the wall fell. Israel went into the city and took it. The passage says the city and its contents were devoted to destruction, while silver, gold, bronze, and iron were reserved for the LORD’s treasury. Rahab and those with her were rescued because she had hidden the messengers and because of the agreement with the spies. This scene focuses on the trumpet blast, the shout, and the fall of the wall.
