The Bible Story

Isaac Is Born

Genesis 21:1-7 tells how the LORD did for Sarah as he had spoken. Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son at the set time God had spoken. Abraham named the boy Isaac and circumcised him when he was eight days old, as God commanded. Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born. Sarah responded with joyful wonder, saying that God had made laughter for her and marveling that she had nursed a son in Abraham’s old age. This passage presents God’s faithfulness through the birth, naming, and care of Isaac. It also records Abraham’s obedience to God’s command. The account does not need added details to show why this moment mattered: the LORD did what he said he would do.
