Isaac Is Born

Genesis 21:1–7 tells how the LORD did for Sarah as he had spoken. Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son at the set time God had spoken. Abraham named the boy Isaac. When Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded. Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born. Sarah responded with joyful wonder, saying that God had made laughter for her and that those who heard would laugh with her. She marveled that she had nursed a son in Abraham’s old age. This account presents Isaac’s birth, naming, and Abraham’s obedience, while showing Sarah’s great joy at what had happened.
