The Bible Story

Joseph and His Brothers

Genesis 37:12–17 tells how Joseph’s brothers were tending Jacob’s flock near Shechem. Jacob sent Joseph to check on them and bring back word. Joseph went to Shechem, but he did not find them there. An unnamed man met him and said that the brothers had moved on, so Joseph followed the direction toward Dothan. The passage presents this as an ordinary journey and does not identify the man or give him a supernatural role. This moment comes after Jacob’s favoritism toward Joseph and the brothers’ growing resentment, including their reaction to Joseph’s dreams. The travel itself is simple, but it leads Joseph toward the place where the brothers will see him. This page should remain with the journey and direction, without adding danger, adventure, or later events.
