The Bible moment
Exodus 16:22–30 describes what happened when the Israelites gathered manna in the wilderness. On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much as usual—two omers per person. Moses explained that the next day was the Sabbath, a holy day of rest to the LORD. The people were to bake and boil what they had gathered and keep the remainder until morning. Unlike manna kept overnight on other days against the instruction, this preserved portion did not become foul or breed worms. Some people still went out to gather on the seventh day, but they found none. Through these instructions, the LORD taught the Israelites to trust His provision, follow His commands, and rest on the Sabbath. This passage is part of the larger account in which God provided manna as bread from heaven for Israel in the wilderness.
