The Bible Story

Naaman Is Healed

In 2 Kings 5:1–4, Naaman is commander of the army of Aram, but he has a skin disease. A captive Israelite girl serving in Naaman’s household tells Naaman’s wife that the prophet in Samaria could heal him. The passage presents the girl as someone whose words provide important guidance. Her message begins the events that lead Naaman to seek help from Elisha. The Bible does not give the girl’s name, age, or capture story, so those details should not be added. This account later includes Naaman’s journey, Elisha’s instruction through a messenger, Naaman’s washing in the Jordan River, and his healing. It also describes Naaman’s recognition of God’s power and Elisha’s refusal of payment.
