The Big Idea

Following a wise direction can require humility and trust, especially when the answer is different from what we expected.

The Bible Story

Naaman Is Healed

In 2 Kings 5:8-10, Naaman arrives with horses and chariots after hearing that Elisha can help him. Elisha does not come out to meet him; instead, Elisha sends a messenger with an instruction: Naaman is to wash seven times in the Jordan River so that his skin will be restored and he will be clean. Naaman has a skin disease, but the passage does not give a more specific diagnosis. This part of the story focuses on the instruction before Naaman obeys it. The following verses tell how Naaman first becomes angry, then listens to his servants, washes in the Jordan, and is healed. Keep the sequence clear: the journey and trust come before the washing and healing.

Use this page

Use this image before teaching Naaman’s washing and healing. Invite children to notice the messenger’s role, the traveling attendants, and the river ahead. Explain that the scene shows movement toward obedience, not the completed healing. Keep the focus on humility and obedience without blaming anyone for illness.
