The Bible moment
Genesis 19:15–22 describes the angels urging Lot to hurry because the LORD is about to destroy Sodom. They take Lot, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and lead them out of the city. The passage says this rescue happens because the LORD is merciful. Lot asks to flee to Zoar instead of going farther into the surrounding area. His request is granted, and the angel allows Zoar to be spared. Lot reaches that destination before the destruction described later in Genesis 19. This scene focuses on urgent obedience, the LORD’s mercy, and rescue from judgment. It does not include Lot’s daughters’ fiancés or other escapees. It also comes before Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed, and before the account of Lot’s wife looking back.
