Elijah on Mount Carmel
1 Kings 18:1-46
During a drought, Elijah meets Ahab and gathers Israel, along with the prophets of Baal, at Mount Carmel. Elijah proposes that the God who answers by fire is the true God. Baal’s prophets call without receiving an answer. Elijah repairs the LORD’s altar with twelve stones, prepares a sacrifice, and prays. The LORD answers with fire, and the people acknowledge that the LORD is God. Elijah then prays again, a small cloud appears, rain comes, and Elijah travels with Ahab toward Jezreel.
