Bible story
Jacob’s Dream
Genesis 28:10-22
Jacob leaves Beersheba for Haran and stops for the night at a place later called Bethel. In a dream, he sees a stairway or flight of steps reaching heaven, with angels going up and down. The LORD stands above it and reaffirms promises concerning Jacob’s descendants, the land, blessing to all families of the earth, and God’s presence and protection. Jacob wakes, recognizes the place as awesome and God’s house, sets up the stone he used as a pillow, names the place Bethel, and makes a conditional vow to God.
