Bible story
Jesus on the Road to Emmaus
Luke 24:13-35
On the same day, two disciples travel from Jerusalem to Emmaus, discussing the recent events. Jesus joins them, but they do not recognize him. They tell him about Jesus of Nazareth, his crucifixion, their hope that he would redeem Israel, and reports from the women and others that the tomb was empty and angels had appeared. Jesus explains from Moses and all the Prophets what the Scriptures say about the Messiah’s suffering and glory. Near Emmaus, they urge him to stay; while he breaks bread, their eyes are opened and they recognize him, and he disappears. They return to Jerusalem and report to the gathered disciples what happened and how Jesus was recognized in the breaking of bread.
