Old Testament · 2 Kings 4:1-7

The Widow’s Oil

A widow tells Elisha that her deceased husband’s creditor is coming to take her two sons as servants because of a debt. Elisha asks what she has in her house, and she says she has only a jar of oil. Following his instructions, she borrows empty containers from her neighbors, shuts the door with her sons, and pours the oil into them until no containers remain. The oil then stops. Elisha tells her to sell the oil, pay the creditor, and live with her sons on what remains.
