New Testament · Mark 5:21-43
Jesus crosses back by boat, and a large crowd gathers around him. Jairus, a synagogue leader, falls at Jesus’ feet and urgently asks him to come because his little daughter is near death. Jesus goes with him, accompanied by the crowd. On the way, a woman who has suffered for twelve years touches Jesus’ clothing and is healed; Jesus identifies her and speaks to her. Messengers then report that Jairus’s daughter has died, but Jesus tells Jairus not to fear and to believe. At the house, Jesus allows only Peter, James, John, and the child’s parents to accompany him. He sends away the mourners, takes the twelve-year-old child by the hand, and commands her to get up. She immediately rises and walks, and those present are astonished. Jesus instructs them to give her something to eat and strictly tells them not to let others know about this.
