New Testament · Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus Walks on Water

After feeding the crowd, Jesus sends his disciples ahead by boat while he dismisses the crowd and prays alone on a mountain. During the night, the boat is troubled by waves and opposing wind. Jesus comes to the disciples walking on the sea. They are afraid, but he identifies himself and tells them not to fear. Peter asks to come to Jesus on the water; Jesus calls him, and Peter walks toward him. When Peter notices the strong wind, he becomes afraid and begins to sink, crying out for Jesus to save him. Jesus immediately takes hold of him and questions his little faith. Jesus and Peter enter the boat, the wind stops, and the disciples worship Jesus, declaring him the Son of God.
