New Testament · Luke 16:19-31
Jesus tells a story about an unnamed rich man who lives in luxury while poor Lazarus lies at his gate, longing for food. After both men die, Lazarus is carried to Abraham’s side, while the rich man is in Hades. A great chasm separates them. The rich man asks Abraham to send Lazarus to warn his five brothers, but Abraham says they have Moses and the Prophets and should listen to them; those who do not listen will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.
