New Testament · Acts 2:1-41

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

At Pentecost, the apostles and other believers are together in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit comes upon them with the sound of a rushing wind and divided tongues resembling fire. They speak in other languages, and devout Jews and proselytes from many nations hear them declaring God’s mighty works. Peter explains that this fulfills Joel’s prophecy and declares that Jesus, whom they crucified, has been raised and made Lord and Messiah by God. Many are cut to the heart, repent, are baptized in Jesus’ name for the forgiveness of sins, receive the promised Holy Spirit, and about three thousand are added that day.
