The Bible Story

Abraham Welcomes Three Visitors

Genesis 18:1-2 says that the LORD appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre while Abraham sat at his tent entrance. Abraham saw three men standing nearby, ran to meet them, and bowed before them. This passage presents the LORD’s appearance and the three men, but it does not identify the visitors beyond what is stated. Abraham’s greeting shows respectful hospitality and a willingness to welcome those who arrive. The wider account in Genesis 18:1-15 describes Abraham offering the visitors water and food and standing nearby while they ate. It also tells of a promise that Sarah would have a son at the appointed time. For this scene, keep attention on Abraham’s first response: he notices the visitors, goes to meet them, and welcomes them beneath the oaks of Mamre.
