The Bible moment
In Genesis 12:1–9, the LORD tells Abram to leave his country, relatives, and father’s household and go to a land God will show him. God promises to make Abram a great nation, bless him, make his name great, and make him a blessing. God also says that all families of the earth will be blessed through him. Abram goes as the LORD tells him. From Haran, Abram, Sarai, Lot, their possessions, and the people with them set out for Canaan and arrive there. Later, Abram builds altars to the LORD at Shechem and between Bethel and Ai, then continues toward the Negev.
