The Bible Story

Saul Meets Jesus on the Road

Acts 9:3-6 tells how Saul approached Damascus when a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard Jesus ask why he was persecuting Him. Saul asked who was speaking, and Jesus identified Himself as Jesus. Jesus then told Saul to enter Damascus, where he would be told what to do. This moment stopped Saul on the road and confronted him about his actions against the Lord’s disciples. The passage presents Jesus speaking through the heavenly event and voice, without describing Jesus’ physical appearance. The scene belongs to the beginning of Saul’s encounter with Jesus, before the later events in Damascus described in Acts 9:7-19.
