The Bible Story

Saul Meets Jesus on the Road

Acts 9:19-20 says that Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. He then immediately proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying that Jesus is the Son of God. This was a remarkable change from Saul’s earlier opposition to the Lord’s disciples. On the road to Damascus, Jesus had confronted Saul. Saul entered Damascus blind, and Ananias obeyed Jesus by going to him. Ananias laid hands on Saul, and Saul regained his sight, was filled with the Holy Spirit, was baptized, ate, and regained strength. After spending time with the disciples, Saul began speaking publicly about Jesus. This scene focuses only on that first proclamation in Damascus. It does not include later journeys, named converts, or additional sermon content.
