Bible moment
The Bible moment
In 1 Samuel 17:38–40, Saul dresses David in his armor, but David says he cannot move comfortably because he is not used to it. David removes the armor and takes the tools he knows: his staff, sling, and shepherd’s bag. He chooses five smooth stones from the brook and then approaches Goliath. This passage presents David’s preparation before the confrontation. It does not teach that David rejected armor as a general principle. The wider account shows David trusting that the LORD can deliver him, while the people around him see Goliath as an intimidating Philistine champion. David’s courage is connected to trust in the LORD rather than apparent strength or human weapons.
