Rain Comes to the Land

1 Kings 18:1-46

The Big Idea

God is powerful and faithful. Like Elijah’s servant, we can watch and wait with trust, even when an answer begins with something very small.

The Bible Story

Elijah on Mount Carmel

In 1 Kings 18:41–46, Elijah tells Ahab that rain is coming. Elijah goes up on Mount Carmel, bows down, and prays. He sends his servant to look toward the sea. The servant checks seven times before reporting a small cloud. Elijah tells Ahab to leave before the rain stops him. The sky grows dark, wind rises, and heavy rain comes. Ahab travels toward Jezreel, while the LORD’s power comes upon Elijah, who runs ahead to Jezreel. This passage closes the Mount Carmel account with the return of rain after the people have recognized that the LORD is God. It highlights prayer, watchfulness, the LORD’s power, and hopeful renewal.
