The Big Idea

When circumstances change, God can still guide and provide. We can listen carefully, obey faithfully, and trust God one step at a time.

The Bible Story

Elijah Is Fed by Ravens

In 1 Kings 17:1–16, Elijah announced that there would be no dew or rain except by the LORD’s word. Then the LORD told Elijah to go east and hide beside the Brook Cherith, where he could drink from the brook. The LORD commanded ravens to bring Elijah bread and meat in the morning and evening, and Elijah did what the LORD said. After some time, the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. The account then says that the LORD sent Elijah to Zarephath, where a widow was commanded to provide for him. The dry brook marked a change in Elijah’s journey, but the LORD continued to direct and care for him. The passage does not give a precise length of time or describe Elijah’s physical condition when the brook became dry.
