The Bible moment
John 4:39-42 describes what happened after Jesus spoke with a Samaritan woman near Sychar. She went into the city and told people about Jesus. Many Samaritans believed because of her testimony, so they came to Jesus and asked him to stay with them. Jesus remained there two days. Then many more believed because they heard Jesus’ own word. The Samaritans told the woman that they no longer believed only because of what she had said; they had heard him themselves and knew that Jesus truly is the Savior of the world. This passage keeps both parts of the response together: the woman’s testimony brought people to Jesus, and hearing Jesus led many more to believe. It also shows a welcoming response across the boundary between Jews and Samaritans. The scene should not add later outcomes for the woman or the city.
