The Bible Story

Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

John 4:1-42 tells how Jesus travels through Samaria and rests beside Jacob’s well near Sychar. A Samaritan woman comes to draw water, and Jesus asks her for a drink. She is surprised because Jews and Samaritans did not share things in common. Jesus explains that God gives living water and that the water he gives becomes a spring leading to eternal life. The well water and Jesus’ gift are not the same. Jesus also teaches about worshiping the Father in spirit and truth and reveals that he is the Messiah. Later, the woman tells people in her city about Jesus. Many Samaritans believe because of her testimony, and many more believe after hearing Jesus himself. They call him the Savior of the world.
