Bible moment
The Bible moment
John 2:13–22 tells how Jesus went up to Jerusalem for Passover and found sellers of oxen, sheep, and doves in the temple, along with money changers. This scene shows the activity he observed in John 2:14. Later in the passage, Jesus acts firmly: he drives out the sheep and oxen, pours out the coins, overturns the tables, and tells the dove sellers to take these things away. He says, “Do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” The disciples remember Scripture about zeal for God’s house. When leaders ask for a sign, Jesus speaks of raising the temple in three days, referring to his body. After Jesus is raised from the dead, his disciples remember and believe his words and the Scripture.
