The Bible moment
Matthew 2:9-10 says that after the Magi left Jerusalem, the star they had seen when it rose went before them until it rested over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced greatly. This passage presents the star as guiding the Magi toward Jesus. The account does not give astronomical or travel details, and it does not say how many Magi traveled. Matthew 2:1-12 calls them Magi from the east. They were seeking the child born king of the Jews. Later, they entered a house, saw Jesus with Mary his mother, worshiped him, and gave gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Keep this visit distinct from the shepherds’ visit and do not place it in a stable. The Magi’s later return by another route followed a warning in a dream not to go back to Herod.
