The Bible moment
Matthew 4:18-22 tells how Jesus began calling fishermen to follow him. At the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw Simon, called Peter, and Andrew casting a net because they were fishermen. He invited them to follow him and said he would make them fishers of people. They immediately left their nets and followed Jesus. Jesus then called James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father, mending nets. They also immediately left the boat and their father and followed Jesus. This account emphasizes Jesus’ call and the fishermen’s immediate response. It does not describe later ministry, miracles, or events beyond this passage.
