The Bible Story

Jesus Raises Jairus’s Daughter

Mark 5:25–34 tells of a woman who had suffered from an illness for twelve years. While Jesus was traveling through the crowd on the way to Jairus’s house, she touched his clothing and was healed. Jesus realized that power had gone out from him and asked who had touched his clothing. The woman came forward in fear and told him what had happened. Jesus spoke to her, saying that her faith had healed her, and sent her in peace. This healing is a separate event from the restoration of Jairus’s twelve-year-old daughter later in the same account. Mark presents Jesus’ compassion toward urgent human need and the woman’s faith amid fear. The passage does not give the woman’s name or describe her illness in detail.
