The Bible moment
Genesis 41:46–49 records that Joseph was thirty years old when he entered Pharaoh’s service. During seven years of abundance, Joseph traveled through Egypt and stored grain in the cities. The harvest became extremely plentiful, like the sand of the sea, so plentiful that Joseph stopped measuring it. This work followed Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dreams. Joseph had explained that seven years of abundance would be followed by seven years when food would become scarce. He advised Pharaoh to collect one-fifth of the harvest during the abundant years and store it for the coming famine. Pharaoh appointed Joseph over Egypt, and Joseph carried out this responsibility. The passage highlights God’s help, wise preparation, faithful responsibility, and serving others through careful administration.
