The Bible moment
In Genesis 41:25–36, Joseph tells Pharaoh that the two dreams have one meaning. Seven years of great abundance will come throughout Egypt, followed by seven years of severe famine. Joseph says the dreams are from God and recommends appointing a discerning, wise man to oversee the land. Officials should collect one-fifth of the harvest during the abundant years and store the grain in cities. The stored food will provide supplies during the famine. At this point, Joseph is presenting the plan; Pharaoh has not yet appointed him. The passage emphasizes that God gives the interpretation and that wise preparation can serve people during a coming hardship.
