The Bible moment
Luke 22:14-16 records that Jesus reclined at the table with the apostles when the hour came. He said he had greatly desired to eat this Passover with them before he suffered. Jesus also said he would not eat it again until it was fulfilled in the kingdom of God. This passage presents the meal as an important moment of shared remembrance and listening. Jesus knew difficult events were ahead, but the scene itself is centered on his words and the gathered apostles. The account continues with Jesus sharing a cup and bread, asking his followers to remember him, and speaking about a new covenant. Later in the meal, he says that one who would betray him was at the table, and the apostles began asking one another who it could be. This page focuses on Jesus’ desire to share the Passover with his apostles, staying within Luke’s account.
