The Bible moment
Exodus 16:16–21 describes Moses instructing the Israelites to gather manna according to each person’s need—an omer for each person in each tent. Some gathered more and some less. When the manna was measured, no one had too much or too little. Moses also told them not to keep it until morning. Some did not follow this instruction, and the stored manna spoiled. Each morning the people gathered manna, and when the sun became hot, it melted. This account comes after God provided bread from heaven for the Israelites in the wilderness. The gathering instructions taught the people to depend on God’s daily provision and to listen carefully to His word. The passage does not name individual gatherers, so the scene should represent the people together rather than identify who gathered more or less.
