The Bible Story

Peter Visits Cornelius

Acts 10:1–8 describes Cornelius as a Roman centurion in Caesarea who was devout, feared God, gave generously to the poor, and prayed regularly. An angel told him that his prayers and gifts had been remembered by God. The angel instructed Cornelius to send men to Joppa and find Simon Peter at Simon the tanner’s house by the sea. Cornelius obeyed. He sent two household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him. This begins the events in which Peter will announce the good news about Jesus to Cornelius’s household. The larger account in Acts 10 teaches that God welcomes people from every nation and directs his servants.
