The Bible Story

Peter Visits Cornelius

Acts 10:24–33 describes Peter’s arrival at Cornelius’s house. Cornelius has gathered his relatives and close friends so they can hear what the Lord has commanded Peter to say. When Peter enters, Cornelius falls at his feet, but Peter tells him to stand because he is only a man. This respectful exchange is not violent, and Peter does not accept worship. Cornelius then explains the angel’s message and says that everyone is present and ready to listen. This moment prepares for Peter’s message that God shows no partiality and welcomes people from every nation. The rest of Acts 10 records Peter speaking about Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit coming upon the Gentile hearers, and their baptism afterward.
