The Bible moment
In Luke 15:28-30, Jesus tells how the older son becomes angry when he learns that his father has welcomed his younger brother with a celebration. He refuses to go inside, so his father comes out and pleads with him. The older son complains that he has served for years without receiving such a celebration. He is especially upset that his brother, who wasted the family property through reckless living, has been welcomed with a feast. The older son’s accusation is part of his complaint; the passage does not add further details. This is a parable told by Jesus, not an account naming historical family members. The father’s response to the older son comes next, but this scene ends before the older son gives a final answer.
