The Bible Story
Luke 5:1-3 tells how people gathered around Jesus to hear God’s word beside the Lake of Gennesaret. Jesus got into Simon’s boat and asked Simon to put it a little way out from shore. From the boat, Jesus taught the crowd. This passage identifies the boat as Simon’s, but it does not say that Simon was already Jesus’ disciple in this scene. The later fishing events and Jesus’ call to Simon, James, and John come after this teaching moment.
