Rahab Helps the Spies

Joshua 2:8-11 records Rahab speaking with the two spies before they lie down on the roof. She says that she knows the LORD has given Israel the land. She explains that the people fear Israel because of what the LORD did at the Red Sea and to Sihon and Og. Rahab then declares that the LORD is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. These earlier events are part of Rahab’s report; they should not be shown as separate action scenes. This passage highlights her recognition of the LORD’s power and authority. The spies remain unnamed in this account. The setting is Rahab’s roof in Jericho, beneath the open sky.
