The Bible Story

Jesus Is Risen

Matthew 28:1–20 tells how Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see Jesus’ tomb after the Sabbath. An angel announced that Jesus had risen, showed that the tomb was empty, and told the women to inform the disciples that Jesus would go ahead of them to Galilee. As the women hurried away with fear and great joy, Jesus met them, greeted them, and told them not to fear. He also told them to tell his brothers to go to Galilee, where they would see him. Matthew then records events involving the guards and leaders, followed by Jesus meeting the eleven disciples in Galilee and giving them his command and promise.
