The Bible moment
Ruth 1:6–7 tells how Naomi heard that the LORD had provided food for his people in Judah. After this news, she began returning from Moab to Bethlehem, the place where she had lived before. Ruth and Orpah, her widowed daughters-in-law, walked with her along the road. This journey followed a deeply difficult time: Naomi’s husband, Elimelech, had died, and later her two sons also died. The passage does not explain the causes of these deaths. At this point, the three women are together, leaving Moab and traveling toward Bethlehem. Their journey connects with the themes of grief, family care, leaving home, and returning. The road marks a changed season for Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah, as they move toward Naomi’s homeland after hearing that food is available there again. The focus remains on the three women and their shared journey, without adding later events from the book of Ruth.
