The Bible moment
Ruth 2:19-23 records what happened after Ruth gleaned in Boaz’s field. Naomi asks where Ruth gathered grain and blesses the man who noticed her. Ruth identifies Boaz. Naomi explains that Boaz is a close relative and one of their redeemers. This passage mentions a redeemer, but it does not describe Boaz carrying out a redemption act or any later legal proceedings. Ruth tells Naomi that Boaz allowed her to stay with his workers until the harvest ended. Naomi approves because another field might not have been safe for Ruth. Ruth remains with Boaz’s female workers and gathers grain through the barley and wheat harvests while living with Naomi. The story presents Ruth as a Moabite woman and foreigner who has shown loyal care for Naomi. Gleaning means gathering grain left behind after harvesting; Ruth is not stealing. The passage ends with Ruth and Naomi together, receiving provision through work, kindness, and protection.
