The Bible moment
Ruth 2:10-13 describes Ruth’s respectful response to Boaz’s kindness. Ruth is a Moabite woman who returned to Bethlehem with Naomi and happened to come to Boaz’s field to gather grain left after harvesting. Boaz has heard about Ruth’s care for Naomi, her departure from her homeland, and her coming to a people she did not previously know. Ruth asks why he has noticed her even though she is a foreigner. Boaz recognizes her loyalty and blesses her under the protection of the LORD, the God of Israel. This passage presents Ruth’s identity as a Moabite and foreigner respectfully, without adding private beliefs or a conversion scene.
