Bible moment
The Bible moment
Ruth 2:2-3 describes Ruth, a Moabite woman who had returned to Bethlehem with Naomi, asking Naomi for permission to glean. Gleaning meant gathering grain left behind after harvesting. Ruth went into the fields and happened to come to a field belonging to Boaz, a wealthy relative of Naomi’s husband, Elimelech. The passage presents Ruth as working respectfully while caring for Naomi. It does not say that Ruth deliberately chose Boaz’s field, and it does not describe her as stealing. This scene occurs before the later events in Ruth’s story.
