The Bible moment
Judges 14:1–20 describes Samson’s first conflict with the Philistines at his wedding feast. Samson had sought a Philistine woman from Timnah as his wife. During the feast, he gave the Philistine companions a riddle. His wife pressed him and wept until he told her the answer, and she then told it to the companions. Samson responded in anger and struck down thirty men at Ashkelon before leaving. The passage presents the Spirit of the LORD’s empowerment without approving every motive or choice Samson made. For children, this account is best handled by focusing on broken trust, anger, and consequences rather than describing violence. The Timnahite woman in this scene is not Delilah; she belongs to an earlier event in Samson’s story.
